Smart Storage Trend Report 2022: battery market growing
Energy Storage NL is a partner of the Smart Storage Trend Report 2022, which was recently published for the first time. The trend report maps the electric storage market. It defines 5 application areas for which electric storage is already deployed in 2021. Besides the current market size, the key opportunities and barriers for future growth are discussed.
The main conclusions from trend report are given below:
- A total of some 2,117 battery systems will be connected by the end of 2021 and the capacity of
these systems 185 MWh. - 64% of the number of installed systems are deployed in the residential segment
of the market. - Adapting the phase-out path for the balancing scheme may increase the rise of
support home batteries in coming years. - In addition to residential storage, batteries are used in the following segments:
mobile storage, peakshaving, trading / grid services or a combination thereof. - Of the total storage capacity, 65% is used to deliver trade and
grid services in conjunction with relieving connection capacity. - Rising volatility of electricity price driven by difference in renewable
generation between noon and evening. - In total, there are now over 200 thousand electric cars in the Netherlands. Expressed in
capacity, this market is still some 38 times larger than the rest of the market for electric
storage.
