Minister Jetten stresses importance of flexibility in 'Solar Letter'
Minister Jetten (Climate and Energy) has sent a letter to the House of Representatives about the role of solar energy in the transition to a sustainable energy supply. In this "Solar Letter," the minister addresses the problems on the Dutch electricity grid and the growing share of renewable energy production. The use of flexibility is underlined as necessary for a sustainable and reliable energy supply.
The letter pays attention to the use of local conversion and energy storage in the development of solar PV power generation. In this way, the electricity grid can be relieved as much as possible, while solar power is optimally utilized locally. To encourage this, one of the studies is how the business case for storage can be strengthened. Reference is made here to a study by CE Delft on behalf of Netbeheer Nederland, which showed that storage can play a substantial role in the construction of large solar parks, without further burdening the grid.
Here the minister refers to the action plan "Getting onto the grid together faster. This action plan is being further developed by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate together with stakeholders in the energy market. Energy Storage NL is closely involved in these consultations and will continue to emphasize the importance of storage through this channel as well.
