Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate visits ESNL participant SemperPower
Energy Storage NL has organized a working visit for twelve officials from the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate. The working visit was a follow-up to Energy Storage NL's appointment with Minister Jetten. The added value of large-scale energy storage in relation to grid congestion problems in the Netherlands was discussed with the officials.
Hans van der Spek, board member of Energy Storage NL, explained the organization ESNL and our vision of the role of energy storage in the future energy system, in which a combination between electricity, heat and molecule storage is necessary.
Host SemperPower briefed officials in attendance on their battery storage project in Terneuzen, the business case developed for it and the company's expectations surrounding their own battery storage activities.
Alexander Savelkoul, innovation manager at Enexis and also a board member at ESNL, then spoke about current and future developments around energy storage at the grid operator. Alexander also commented on the previously published report 'Tipping point large-scale battery storage', carried out by CE-Delft on behalf of Enexis. The ensuing discussion focused on the lack of a profitable business case for the installation of battery systems at existing and new solar farms.
