Centrica Business Solutions partners with 2G Energy AG
This collaboration addresses the growing need for integrated hydrogen solutions. This is an important tool for decarbonizing decentralized energy. As the hydrogen network develops, the highly efficient systems can continue to run on traditional fuel sources. This ensures a longer asset life and thus future-proofs investments.
This is the latest hydrogen partnership from Centrica, which late last year announced plans with HiiROC to inject "emerald" hydrogen into its peaking power plant in Brigg. Centrica and Ryze Hydrogen will also jointly build and operate hydrogen production facilities for the industrial and transportation sectors. There are also plans with Equinor to build a low-carbon hydrogen production hub at Easington in East Yorkshire.
Centrica Business Solutions will offer 2G CHP in the UK & Ireland, the Netherlands and Italy. The partnership will enable it to offer biogas and LPG engines in addition to conventional natural gas. With a return on investment of less than 12 months for some projects, hydrogen-ready CHP remains a quick-win in terms of energy savings, while increasing business resilience and lowering operating costs.
Greg McKenna, Managing Director of Centrica Business Solutions said, "Our customers are fully focused on Net Zero. Partnering with 2G for hydrogen-ready CHP engines strengthens the suite of technologies we already offer to help them on their path to decarbonization."
Arno van Mourik, Director International Centrica Business Solutions said, "Incorporating hydrogen into long-term energy pathway planning is of strategic importance to fully decarbonize processes. At Centrica Business Solutions, we work to ensure that our CHP solutions meet the technical and commercial challenges of achieving carbon neutrality and strike the right balance between what's good for business and what's good for the planet."
Frank Grewe, Chief Technical Officer of 2G said, "With this move, Centrica is responding to the growing need for integrated hydrogen solutions, which are essential for decarbonization in the UK & Ireland, the Netherlands and Italy. The fact that Centrica will partner with 2G to provide its customers with highly efficient, hydrogen-ready cogeneration solutions, once again clearly demonstrates that 2G is considered an international leader in this technology."
