Netherlands and Germany to collaborate on innovative battery technology
Dutch and German companies, knowledge institutions and governments will intensify cooperation on innovative battery technology. Research and development in this area will contribute to a strong mobility sector and to enabling (large-scale) energy storage for a more flexible energy system.
Minister Micky Adriaansens (Economy and Climate) and German State Secretary Sabine Döring (Education and Research) signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Tuesday, April 18, at Hannover Messe, the world's largest technology industry trade fair.
Recycling and renewal of the next generation of batteries
The agreement confirms more public-private cooperation between Dutch and German companies, knowledge institutions and governments for the next generation of batteries containing less critical raw materials such as lithium. The two countries also expressed their intention to enable more recycling in this sector and to research and develop new components for battery cell technology. This will allow both countries to stay ahead in the economic and scientific field. Earlier agreements on this were made in 2021 through the German-Dutch Innovation and Technology Pact.
Response ESNL
Energy Storage NL announces that it is very pleased with this cooperation between the Netherlands and Germany on innovative battery technology. ESNL encourages the development of new generation battery technology and the scaling up of sustainable and circular battery technology and production processes. As well as strengthening the Dutch international positioning through this cooperation.
