More opportunities for energy storage in DEI+ scheme
The outgoing cabinet has doubled the amount for the Demonstration Energy Innovations (DEI+) subsidy scheme. A total of €131 million is available next year for pilot and demonstration projects that contribute to lower carbon emissions in the Netherlands by 2034. In addition to the total size, the maximum contribution per project is also going up, from €15 million to €30 million per project. In addition, more themes have been added to the scheme, which benefits energy storage and conversion.
Thus, the DEI+ scheme has been expanded to include the theme "Promotion of Energy from Renewable Sources. This theme focuses on production, storage and incorporation of energy from renewable sources. New within this theme is that demonstration projects for energy storage are also possible. Previously, only pilot projects for energy storage were subsidized within the DEI scheme. Energy Storage NL (ESNL) has repeatedly raised the lack of demonstration projects for energy storage within the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate. ESNL is therefore pleased that demonstration projects for batteries and thermal storage are now also possible, this as long as there is a direct link to a renewable energy production facility.
Within the DEI+ scheme, the theme 'Flexibilization of the energy system' also remains. In this theme, innovation pilots around energy storage and conversion are made possible. To the already existing theme 'Hydrogen and green chemistry' subsidy projects for the test and experimentation infrastructure have been added, so that also projects around transport and storage hydrogen (carriers) including conversion can be subsidized.
In early December, RFO gave a presentation on the adjustments within the DEI+ scheme.
