Skoon Energy and Eddy Grid partnership to deploy world's largest pool of mobile batteries against grid congestion
Skoon Energy and Eddy Grid are joining forces to introduce a network of Energy Hubs. At these hubs, mobile batteries from Skoon's rental marketplace can be deployed between bookings to combat grid congestion. Through this joint effort, Skoon and Eddy Grid ensure that these batteries do not stand idle without revenue, but contribute to a stable energy grid while opening new revenue streams for both battery owners and grid connection owners. This results in a shorter payback period for mobile battery systems, allowing owners to invest more quickly in this critical technology for the energy transition.
The partnership will soon allow all battery owners who manage their operations through Skoon's rental software to take advantage of it. They easily deploy their systems to combat imbalance and congestion on the power grid, while generating more revenue. Today, Skoon's marketplace counts a rapidly growing capacity of more than 400 MW in Europe. By partnering with Eddy Grid, this power can easily be deployed to reduce pressure on the grid and generate additional revenue for Skoon's platform users. This gives grid operators breathing room when dealing with costly grid reinforcements required due to grid congestion.
Parties that have a large connection that is not (yet) fully used can apply to Skoon or Eddy Grid and will be guided in getting their connection ready. The benefit to locations is twofold. First, the entire connection is regularly deployed so any "use it or lose it" rule, which is expected to take effect next year in the new energy law, will not apply. The revenue is shared with the location, turning an initial cost into a source of income!
To put this into perspective; with installation of two 10-foot container batteries (0.5MW), more than €150,000 per year can quickly be earned for the battery owner and €26,000 per year for the site.
The first Energy Hub is already live in Zwolle and was realized within three weeks in cooperation with site manager E&CO. The first setup of 500 kW / 1 MWh that has been installed comes from battery owner B-Charge and ensures that revenue is generated right from the start.
The next sites are expected to be delivered as early as Q1 2024. A network of several decentralized sites will be added during the year.
