TommyTomato cooks at full power again with smart battery system from iwell

iwell installed a battery system in record time at the Haarlem headquarters of do-good initiative TommyTomato, which has already prepared and delivered one million healthy school lunches. Thanks to the smart battery, the location is less dependent on the power grid and more resistant to power outages.

Many power outages continued to hamper TommyTomato's operation, prompting founder Bas Turk to make an urgent appeal via LinkedIn for "extra power. Turk: ''The power outages made work impossible at times and we were also unable to expand. The power grid in our area is incredibly congested and the waiting time to increase our connection is over two years. Too many power outages would be at the expense of delivering hot meals on time. In the long run, this would mean that we could not keep our commitment to deliver hot vegetable lunches to schools in a timely manner. We are grateful that iwell responded and was able to deliver so quickly, as well as for the support from the DOEN Foundation who moved lightning fast on some of the funding for this investment.''

Zucchini 'm down there

iwell installed a Power Cube Modular system with 125 kW of power and 215 kWh of capacity, allowing TommyTomato to expand the number of ovens to 40. This will allow over 15,000 lunches to be heated daily. The battery is wrapped in a design by TommyTomato, with funny vegetable slogans like ''cucumber-er not on.''

''We are proud to have been able to offer help,'' said Jan Willem de Jong, founder and CEO of iwell. ''TommyTomato's call came to us just before the holidays. The installation was completed in early January and the battery is now fully operational. And I'm sure it's not just Bas who is struggling with grid congestion in his region, obviously more entrepreneurs are. This project and the speed involved proves that a solution to a lack of power or inability to expand is often available.''
