Inspiring meeting at Metalot

The well-attended inspiration meeting at Metalot in Budel provided valuable insights on iron powder technology and the requirements within the ecosystem. 

Iron powder is an energy carrier that can be transported over long distances. Iron oxide powder is reduced to iron powder using locally generated hydrogen, for example in very sunny areas or where hydrogen production is very cheap. The iron powder can be transported via large ships without loss to locations with high temperature heat demand. This technology is characterized by full circularity and no CO2 emissions throughout the generation and consumption process. The biggest challenges lie in community building and further development of the technology, which requires the necessary funding. 

Attendees also enjoyed a presentation by Big Ass Battery, which delved deeper into their battery applications, business case and new production location in the Netherlands. By 2024, Big Ass Battery will increase production from 30 to 100 battery systems, with in-house developed software that can intelligently control depending on the application and location.
