Mobile energy storage: a quick win against grid congestion? Join the discussion!

During the Energy Trade Fair, Energy Storage NL announces to draw more specific attention to the importance of mobile energy storage. Together with several members we are finalizing a position paper, in which we consider the great opportunities of mobile storage for various societal challenges, such as grid congestion, housing and the nitrogen crisis. A knowledge session on Mobile Energy Storage will therefore take place on December 3, chaired by Peter Paul van Voorst tot Voorst, CEO of member company Skoon.

Mobile energy as answer to grid congestion

Mobile energy storage offers the ability to quickly provide flexibility in almost any location. These systems are placed at an end user's location for several weeks or months a year, and because these systems can be easily moved, in many cases it is an ideal technology for relieving local congestion, providing electricity without a grid connection and buffering temporary surpluses of renewable generation. These include not only containers with Li-ion batteries, but also generators running on renewable fuels such as hydrogen or formic acid.

ESNL is calling for accelerated scale-up of mobile storage in partnership with grid operators, with safety, sustainability and cost efficiency at the forefront. The partners want to ensure that mobile energy solutions become a standard part of grid management strategies in the Netherlands, so that the growing demand for clean energy can be met in a flexible and responsible manner.

Knowledge session and invitation to participate

ESNL is hosting a knowledge session on Dec. 3 focused on removing barriers and accelerating the scale-up of mobile energy solutions. ESNL invites experts, companies and policy makers to participate and collaborate on practical solutions to grid congestion.
