Dutch company launches fire-safe and sustainable home battery recyclable for 95%
Eindhoven-based ESS4U launched a sustainable home battery made of gel battery cells and 100% fire-safe on Aug. 8, 2024. This new Qurmit home battery, is the only one of its kind for 95% recyclable. Quality is a top priority, evidenced in part by the fact that the new home battery is developed and produced in cooperation with the VDL Groep, known for the development and production of industrial products. Green & safe home battery
Many households and businesses, by purchasing solar panels, have taken steps to contribute to a greener world while saving on energy costs. But in their absence, most of the solar energy generated is fed back into the grid. Fortunately, by using a home battery, households and small businesses can store that generated energy for use at a later time.
Until recently, there were risks associated with home batteries because common home batteries are made with lithium-ion technology. This can be a fire hazard and toxic. For example, a fire hazard can occur if these batteries are overcharged or damaged or if a short circuit occurs. And if a fire occurs, fighting it is not possible because of the flammable and hazardous substances contained in lithium-ion batteries.
ESS4U now offers a safe solution. The company has more than 20 years of experience using fire-safe and durable gel technology, and along with the charging regime developed by ESS4U, is now using this technology in their new home battery, the Qurmit.
A good charging system or charging regime takes into account the battery's technology as well as its capacity, temperature and state of charge. The charging regime developed by ESS4U is specially designed to extend battery life up to 25% and is controlled by means of the ESS4U Booster which is integrated into the Qurmit.
Green Qurmit for 95% recyclable
Dop Brzesowsky, Managing Director at ESS4U, is proud that his company is launching a home battery based on gel technology. "We have years of experience using gel technology for large industrial off-grid energy projects. After thorough research and an extensive testing period, we are now ready to offer this fire-safe technology in the form of a home battery. The battery cells of the Qurmit consist of recycled material for 50% and the entire home battery is recyclable for 95% at the end of its life."
Local recycling process
The recycling process itself is also as green as possible. In Europe and even within the Netherlands, the complete recycling infrastructure is in place to process gel battery cells. And besides all these advantages, there is another positive aspect. Dop Brzesowsky: "Because our Qurmit home battery is fireproof, we also solve the insurance problem of small businesses that want to purchase a (home) battery. Their insurance often does not cover damage caused by home batteries based on lithium-ion technology unless specific additional measures are taken such as fire- and explosion-safe rooms."
Money back for returned home battery
Another plus of the Qurmit is that at the end of its life, up to 20 years, the user gets a portion of their investment back for a returned home battery.
Indoor and outdoor use with quiet fan
Home battery Qurmit has a charging capacity of 2000 W and a discharging capacity of 2400 W and ensures sufficient availability of power. A backup option allows the battery to switch on automatically should the power grid fail. Thus, users are energy-independent and supplied with power even during power outages.
With its size of 128 x 73 x 48 cm, the Qurmit can be placed indoors, but it is also fine outdoors. The Qurmit is weatherproof, when it freezes the Qurmit continues to work down to -40º C. and during hot summers the Qurmit functions well up to +55º C. The battery cell of the Qurmit does not require active cooling or heating, so no energy is lost unnecessarily and the fan does not hum.
Easy installation and complete overview
The Qurmit is easy to install with only one Ethernet cable between inverter/charger and meter box. The home battery is also easily linkable with other Energy Management Systems, existing PV systems and smart meters.
Users can access the Qurmit securely and easily via the Internet. All energy flows of a home, office or small business can be imaged with a free app, giving full insight into energy consumption and energy output.
Availability
The Qurmit home battery has a market-based price and is available from now on through the certified and trained installation partners PureSolar, Profelxy and Bypower.
