Top energy sector launches establishment of energy storage knowledge and innovation hub

On the initiative of Energy Storage NL (ESNL) and TNO, the Top Sector Energy has appointed a quartermaster to set up a knowledge and innovation hub for energy storage. The current picture is that the knowledge of content, processes and organization of energy storage innovations - both electricity, heat and molecule storage - is fragmented. As a result, knowledge is not being built up efficiently and the Dutch research infrastructure is not being used optimally to bring innovations quickly to the market. It seems logical to also bring together social and economic dilemmas surrounding storage at a central location. The hub will thus not only open up knowledge, but should also strengthen the connection between stakeholders. In this way, the development of energy storage in the Netherlands can be taken to the next level.

In the first phase, an inventory will be made of the storage initiatives and organizations that already exist and their scope, as well as the needs for a broad knowledge and innovation hub covering all energy carriers and layers of our energy system. It also looks at how the hub can be organized.

Energy Storage NL sees the development of an innovation hub around energy storage as a further professionalization of the Dutch energy storage sector. Knowledge development on new storage innovations will be crucial for the acceleration of the Dutch energy transition and also strengthens growth opportunities for Dutch manufacturing companies.

ESNL is in close contact with the quartermasters of Studio Holon, which is run by Edwin Edelenbos, Paul Dalebout and Michiel Damoiseaux. Email edwin.edelenbos@topsectorenergie.nl for questions.
