Heat buffer from HoCoSto is the missing link in sustainable heating and cooling.
HoCoSto provides an innovative, modular buffer construction for sustainable heat storage.
The heat buffer, a STES (seisonal thermal energy storage), is the missing link between generating heat through solar collectors and using sensible heat. In periods when there are insufficient solar hours to directly meet the heat demand, stored heat from the buffer can be used. This makes one independent of a gas connection.
The uniqueness of the buffer is that its patented construction method makes it easy and quick to install. No concrete construction or reinforcement is required. This makes local and small-scale storage possible and affordable. The size of the buffer is adjusted according to the heat demand. Solitary properties can become self-sufficient, shared application in clusters of homes or a residential complex is extremely cost-effective.
After covering the STES with a layer of insulation and a layer of earth, the site is functional again up to 1.5 tons/m2. This allows the site to be used as a garden, playing field or parking lot. The STES acts as an external water heater and is connected to the house system.
As a source, waste heat from industrial processes is an alternative. In a heat grid, or at a CHP plant, heat storage can be incorporated as an intermediate buffer, making the overall system more efficient.
HoCoSto stands for hot-cold-storage. In addition to application as heat storage, the buffer can also act as a cold storage. Combined with a dedicated heat pump, the STES is the core of a system for active cooling, passive heating.
