As operator of the largest underground gas storage facilities (UGS) Norg and Grijpskerk, NAM has been contributing to the Dutch energy system for more than 25 years. From this knowledge and experience, we are thinking along in setting up a new sustainable energy system for the Netherlands. There are many new possibilities to explore; from geothermal energy, CO₂ storage in empty gas fields at sea, to blue and green hydrogen.

Infrastructure

In addition to the deployment of knowledge and experience, the existing NAM infrastructure could potentially play a role in the (regional) energy transition. This infrastructure and connections could be reused for hydrogen or green gas to become part of the future Dutch energy system.

Natural gas as part of energy transition

Almost all independent studies indicate that natural gas will remain an important energy source for years to come. In the energy transition, as it were, natural gas is temporarily going hand in hand with new forms of energy. This means that NAM as a company also has the task of greening its locations, activities and its own energy demand, so that we can extract oil and gas in the cleanest way possible. NAM has already taken the necessary steps in this task. More can be found at Use of green power | Dutch Petroleum Company (nam.nl)
