Proton Ventures, housed in Schiedam, is an independent engineering firm and PtX project developer within the chemical industry. We offer innovative engineering and turnkey solutions across the entire (green) hydrogen/ammonia chain. From world-class storage terminals, large and decentralized hydrogen/ammonia production units to ammonia cracking. We work globally and deliver our services and solutions with an international, dynamic and flexible team.

Ammonia Terminal In Devnya, Bulgaria
In 2013, Proton Ventures completed the design, construction and commissioning of a 10,000-ton ammonia terminal for one of its customers in Devnya, Bulgaria. In 2020, Proton Ventures began the design of another 12,500-ton tank, which was commissioned in February 2023. Projects like this are important for the energy transition. For example, this customer is the first company in the EU to provide pilot delivery of blue ammonia from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) to Europe to enable the energy transition.

Green Ammonia Pilot Plant (GAPP) in Jorf Lasfar
Currently, Proton Ventures is constructing a green ammonia plant in Jorf Lasfar. This ammonia plant will serve as a demonstration model for large-scale production of green ammonia. This demonstration will accelerate the energy transition as ammonia will be an important energy vector and energy carrier. Currently, Proton Ventures is also developing similar projects in various locations around the world for both small- and large-scale green ammonia production.

Green Ammonia Import terminal and ammonia cracking in the Netherlands
Proton Ventures is currently conducting a (Pre)-FEED for an ammonia import terminal for one of its customers in the Netherlands. This facility will handle an initial throughput capacity of one million tons of NH3 per year (mtpa). The terminal is well located for supplying green ammonia by ocean-going vessels, transloading into barges and tankers by rail. In a second phase, the facility's throughput capacity can be expanded to two million tons per year (mtpa) and the terminal will be connected to the Dutch hydrogen pipeline network via a world-scale cracker.

Terminal concepts

Proton Ventures BV has extensive experience in building and developing pressurized and refrigerated ammonia terminals. We are also specialized in storage concepts for chemical and liquid fertilizers for agriculture and horticulture. Because we work with hazardous goods, this requires up-to-date technology and hands-on engineering support. Proton Ventures BV provides this support through its innovative concepts, practical experience and operational knowledge.

NFuel

The NFuel concept is based on a decentralized production of ammonia, where you as a customer are independent of transportation costs and ammonia price fluctuations. In addition, ammonia can be produced from renewed electricity sources (green ammonia) or by using raw materials such as natural gas, biogas or flared gas.

Outsourcing utilities, such as steam production systems, cooling water systems, nitrogen production, fire water systems and air systems.

From feasibility studies, engineering and procurement to construction services, we have the knowledge and tools to implement them for your projects.

Training and other services

We provide customized (operations) training for our clients. We conduct specific safety studies such as HAZard & OPerability studies (Hazop) and Safety management systems.
