QuinteQ
What do we do?
QuinteQ builds one of the most advanced flywheels in the world. The flywheel was basically designed by Boeing, and is now being further developed and marketed by QuinteQ, a Dutch startup. The QuinteQ flywheel is a compact, mobile, kinetic battery that can be deployed in regular containers. The flywheel is perfect for delivering high power for relatively short periods of time (seconds to minutes). Boeing's innovations have ensured that we have a flywheel with endless cycles, minimal maintenance and minimal standby losses (1% compared to the conventional 7-15% losses of other flywheels). In addition, it is a storage technology that is fully recyclable and does not rely on toxic or rare resources. We have a fully European supply chain.
What projects have we accomplished?
Ongoing projects are:
Test & demonstration project with Ministry of Defense at Fieldlab Smartbase in Ede: The flywheel will be placed on the microgrid at Fieldlab Smartbase in Ede, where it will demonstrate its value as a shock absorber for microgrids.
HORIZON2020: 2LIPP - Second life for power plants. This project aims to give coal-fired power plants a second life by installing hybrid storage technologies on the plants' already existing infrastructure. In this way, the plant can take on a new role by balancing the grid with renewable energy, rather than burning fossil fuels.
EDF: NOMAD - Development of storage technologies for next-generation forward operating bases.
Demonstration project with major construction player: Q3 2023 a demonstration of the flywheel will take place on a construction site in the Netherlands, where the flywheel will peakshaven a construction site with tower cranes. This project will demonstrate the ability of our flywheel to still install projects with large tower cranes on a small consumption connection (<3x80A).
