Networking Meeting Security and Energy Storage
Last Thursday afternoon, the network meeting with the topic 'safety and energy storage' took place at Industriepark Kleefse Waard in the brand new Industrial Studios. Thanks to our speakers Marc Hiddink, Jeroen Herremans, Taco Bosdijk, Berry Looijen, Koen Broess, Casper Scheltinga and Evert Raaijen, this meeting focused on safety in the EU battery regulation, insuring energy storage and practical experiences with the PGS37-1. The network meeting attracted over 100 interested participants and was concluded with an energetic networking reception.
Introduction/presentation IPKW and Connectr by Marc Hiddink and Jeroen Herremans
Introducing IPKW and Connectr, Marc and Jeroen talk about where we are and what is possible at this renovated industrial site.
EU Battery Regulation by Taco Bosdijk: Progress strategic approach batteries 2023
The five pillars of the Dutch Batteries Strategy:
- Raw materials
- Circularity: Circular batteries: knowledge and opportunities at home and abroad + Brochure BCC
- Safety: Safe and Sustainable by Design Batteries -RHDHV (2023) + Safety EOS -RHDHV (2023) + Risk Profile for Batteries -TNO (2022) + Coherence and coverage regulations batteries -RHDHV (2021)
- Economic prospects
- Energy System
Insuring energy storage by Berry Looijen (Achmea argo)
Berry took us into the world of an insurer and the specific agricultural context in a compelling story. Several examples told the story of why safety in design and a broader view of incorporation is very important to an insurer. The starting points of the government and an insurer are not always on the same page, making the inclusion of an insurer in the early stages of a design extra important/wise.
Working group safety actions (action members)
Koen Broess, Casper Scheltinga and Evert Raaijen gave an update of the safety working group and presented practical experiences of the PGS37-1 known to us. During the meeting it became clear that there are diverse experiences on the PGS37-1 both in its implementation and in its understandability and interpretations. Koen, Casper and Evert proposed to present bundled input from the industry to the committee. In addition, a supported request was made during the meeting to create a "check-off list" of the PGS-37-1. This list will provide a translation of the PGS37-1 broken down into the various typicals. Also, this document can help in discussions with insurers, municipalities and safety regions because it also helps them to keep an overview.
Therefore, the Safety Working Group would like to propose the following action:
- Document practical experiences intended for PGS37 committee
- Action sector: Share your experience with ESNL by sending an email to sacha.schmitter@fme.nl.
- PGS 37-1 Compliance/Cancellation Document: If interested and willing to provide input, please sign up.
- Action sector: Application + Send own interpretation document to sacha.schmitter@fme.nl.
Survey cybersecurity (action members)
At the end of 2024 (17-10-2024 or later), the new cybersecurity directive (NIS2) will take effect for a large number of companies in various sectors. ESNL would like to draw the industry's attention to the fact that energy storage falls under the stricter group and that the directive will apply from a medium-sized company (minimum 50 employees or an annual turnover and balance sheet total of >10million euros).
As indicated at the meeting, ESNL wants to gauge whether there is animosity in a cybersecurity working group. From the initial poll, the main need is for information.
