Hoog Dalem: All-electric residential neighborhood

Self-generated energy maximized through energy storage

At some times of the day you use more energy than at others. So how do you make sure you use the energy of calm moments at peak moments? In Gorinchem's Hoog Dalem, some 42 households are participating in a new energy system, without natural gas. An all electric neighborhood. Since 2014, Stedin has been investigating with the residents how we can maximize the use of energy through energy storage at the home. In March 2017, data was already analyzed, and from this it became clear: an energy system without natural gas works!

Largely self-sufficient

Hoog Dalem is part of the first Dutch practical trial in which home energy storage is used. This allows residents to use self-generated energy for their household electrical appliances. The households all have a heat pump and sometimes solar panels. When there is little or no use, the self-generated solar energy is stored in batteries. The stored power can then be used at any time of the day. The households thus become largely self-sufficient by monitoring, planning and adjusting their consumption.
