Your Energy Moment 2.0
If we continue to use energy as we do now, resources will soon be exhausted. That is why it is important that we make room for renewable energy, generated by people themselves. But also that we use the energy we have differently. Smarter. For example, by using energy when it is convenient.
With the pilot project Your Energy Moment, Enexis has investigated the extent to which people are willing to do this and what demands this places on the energy grid and the services of energy suppliers. Simply by trying it out on a small scale. The participants' experiences form the basis for the energy grid of the future. A grid that keeps electricity affordable and ensures that we never run out.
The 'JEM 2.0' pilot started in January 2017 and lasted until January 2018. This is the continuation of the pilot 'Your Energy Moment' (2012-2015) which demonstrated that dynamic energy tariffs are a reason for consumers to adjust their energy consumption. Today, it is already possible for consumers to make use of these dynamic energy tariffs. As a result, the various energy parties are looking for new business models. This follow-up pilot investigates what a good working business model can be for offering dynamic energy tariffs with various energy parties. It will also look at how to organize cooperation between the various parties involved so that billing and settlement can be arranged transparently and fairly.
90 households in a residential neighborhood in Breda participated in JEM 2.0. The households are continuously informed about their consumption, the associated costs and the expected developments of the energy price. In this way we enable them to use energy when it is most advantageous. Is the price of energy high? Then they can use their own energy generated with their solar panels. In 39 of the 90 households, a battery system (Tesla Powerwall) was installed in the home, i.e. behind the energy meter, so that the possibility of energy storage for future business models could also be explored.
