Pollux

In the fall of 2023, SemperPower's third large-scale energy storage project, Project Pollux, will be commissioned. This battery system, with 30 megawatts of power and a capacity of 68 megawatt hours, is the largest operational battery project in the Netherlands, and thus also one of the largest in northwestern Europe.

The operational phase of this project was made possible by the joint efforts of our project partners. In exactly one year, energy specialist Alfen built the battery system on the North Sea Port site in the middle of the energy hub in Vlissingen-Oost, next to twin sister Castor. The system is directly connected to Stedin's network. Essent will use the 30 MW/68 MWh battery system on a long-term basis to overcome the volatility of its renewable energy portfolio. This contributes to a faster integration of renewable energy in the Dutch electricity market. The project has also been made possible with Triodos Banka.s.r. and manager of sustainable investment funds Meewind as funding partners.
